FATA
Last modified: Thursday, October 27, 2005

Short for Fibre Attached Technology Adapted, it is a new class of hybrid disk drive technology that is built specifically for Fibre Channel systems. FATA drives combine a Fibre Channel interface with a low-cost-per-gigabyte, high-capacity disk drive mechanism to enable a new class of storage devices costing significantly less per gigabyte than mission-critical Fibre Channel drives. Currently, Fibre Attached Technology Adapted drives offer a capacity up to 250 gigabytes with a dual-port, 2GB/second, Fibre Channel interface. It's expected that this capacity standard will change as the technology evolves in the future.
